26.09.2024

The new Prohibited List of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) for 2025 has been published.

The most important changes compared to 2024 concern the following classes of banned substances and methods:

In class S3. Beta-2 agonists, the interval of permitted doses for inhaled formoterol has been changed. From 1 January 2025, up to 36 micrograms of formoterol may be inhaled within 12 hours; as in previous years, the maximum permitted daily dose is 54 micrograms within 24 hours.

In class M1. Manipulation of blood and blood components, all donations of blood and blood components, including by apheresis, are permitted from 1 January 2025. Donations must be made in an accredited donation centre. Certain types of donation, e.g. platelet donations or peripheral stem cell donations, were previously prohibited.

In class P1, beta-blockers will no longer be prohibited in any skiing and snowboarding disciplines from 1 January 2025.

In addition, substance class S0. Non-approved substances, S4. Hormone and metabolic modulators, S5. Diuretics and masking agents and S6. Stimulants, to make it easier for athletes and those around them to identify prohibited substances. .

The substances fentanyl and tramadol were newly included in the Monitoring Programme for 2025 in order to monitor possible out-of-competition abuse. The use of both substances is already classified as S7. Narcotics prohibited in-competition.

The WADA Prohibited List is one of eight international standards whose implementation is mandatory for all signatories to the World Anti-Doping Code. It specifies which substances and methods are prohibited both in-competition and out-of-competition. The WADA Prohibited List is revised at least once a year.

The WADA Prohibited List 2025 will now be officially translated into German and made available on the website of the National Anti Doping Agency of Germany (NADA Germany) at the turn of the year. The English version of the WADA Prohibited List 2025, as well as the English explanations of the most important changes to the new WADA Prohibited List and the Monitoring Programme, are now available in the download area of the NADA website.
