WADA 2022 Prohibited List published

01.10.2021

The new Prohibited List of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) for the year 2022 has been published. It will come into force on 01.01.2022. The WADA 2022 Prohibited List will now be officially translated into German and made available on the homepage of the National Anti Doping Agency of Germany (NADA Germany) at the turn of the year. The English version, the English explanations of the most important changes to the new WADA Prohibited List and the Monitoring Program are now available in the download area of the NADA homepage.

The most important changes compared to the 2021 Prohibited List concern the following substance classes:

From 01.01.2022, all types of injections of glucocorticoids (S9. Glucocorticoids) are prohibited within competitions. This concerns, for example, intra-articular (= into a joint cavity), intramuscular (= into a muscle), intravenous (= into a vein), peritendinous (= to a tendon) and subcutaneous (= under the skin) injections. Previously, only oral, rectal, intravenous and intramuscular administration of glucocorticoids were prohibited within competitions. Explanations of the new regulation can be found in the "Summary of Major Modifications and Explanatory Notes" to the 2022 Prohibited List. In addition, washout times for the individual glucocorticoid active substances and the different administration methods are specified there. In order to reduce the risk of positive results for glucocorticoids within competitions, athletes should at least adhere to the washout times specified here between medical treatments with glucocorticoids and competitions. In addition, it is clarified that oromucosal, buccal, gingival and sublingual administration of glucocorticoids within competitions is prohibited, as these modes of administration count as oral administration.

In the substance class S3. Beta-2 agonists, the interval of permitted doses for inhaled salbutamol is changed. Up to 600 µg of salbutamol may now be inhaled within 8 hours; the maximum permitted daily dose is 1,600 µg within 24 hours, as in previous years.

The substance classes S0. Non-authorised substances, S1. Anabolic substances, S2. Pepid hormones, growth factors, related substances and mimetics and S6. Stimulants, further named examples of prohibited substances are included.

The WADA Prohibited List is one of six international standards whose implementation is mandatory for all Signatories to the World Anti-Doping Code. It specifies which substances and methods are prohibited both in-competition and out-of-competition. The WADA Prohibited List is revised at least once a year.
