The National Anti Doping Agency of Germany (NADA Germany) has announced the following outcome of the case:
The professional handball player Nikola Portner ("Athlete") tested positive for Metamfetamine(d-) (measured concentration: 78 ng/ml) following an in-competition doping control of 10 March 2024. The World Anti-Doping Agency, the National Anti Doping Agency of Germany, the Handball-Bundesliga e.V. and the Athlete have concluded a Case Resolution Agreement according to which the Athlete is sanctioned for a 2.1 anti-doping rule violation (presence of a Prohibited Substance) with a period of Ineligibility of twenty-one (21) months starting with the date of the sample collection on 10 March 2024. The parties agree that there is no indication on file that the anti-doping rule violation was intentional. The Athlete will therefore be eligible to participate in any activities and competitions as of 10 December 2025, and will be allowed to return to train with a team two months before expiry of the period of Ineligibility, i.e. as of 10 October 2025. The Case Resolution Agreement replaces the decision of the Handball-Bundesliga e.V. of 16 July 2024 and the ongoing proceedings before the Court of Arbitration for Sport and the Oberlandesgericht Köln will be terminated.
