The National Anti Doping Agency of Germany (NADA Germany) carried out an extensive testing programme in the run-up to the Paralympic Games in Tokyo (Japan). Horses eligible for nomination and participation were also checked by NADA Germany as part of the medication controls in the run-up to the Paralympic Games.
Despite the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Paralympic testing programme ran according to plan and at its usual high level. Since March 2021 NADA Germany has conducted 140 tests [168 samples: 140 urine and 28 blood samples] on the 134 German participants nominated for the Paralympic Games and the designated guides in training and competition.
In addition, 96 samples of the Paralympic participants were transferred to long-term storage and can be analysed again until 2031. The assignment of special further analysis and the systematic evaluation of the Athlete Biological Passport (ABP) in accordance with the specifications of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) were also part of the comprehensive preparation by NADA Germany.
As part of the entire pre-Paralympic testing program, 252 tests [287 samples: 252 urine and 35 blood samples] have been carried out by NADA Germanyon all potential Paralympic candidates since March 2021.
In accordance with the nomination principles of the National Paralympic Committee Germany, nomination to the Games is also preceded by conduct of the NADA e-learning course. This measure, which is part of NADA Germany's prevention program GEMEINSAM GEGEN DOPING (TOGETHER AGAINST DOPING), serves to inform and educate participants in anti-doping matters, particularly in preparation for the Paralympic Games.
