Im Rahmen der 33. Sitzung des Aufsichtsrates der Nationalen Anti Doping Agentur Deutschland (NADA) am 25. April 2023 in Berlin hat Dr. Andrea Gotzmann darum gebeten, sie aufgrund der Beendigung ihrer beruflichen Laufbahn offiziell vom Amt der Vorstandsvorsitzenden der NADA zum 31. Juli 2023 abzuberufen.
„Mein persönlicher Entschluss steht seit längerem fest und ist frühzeitig mit dem Aufsichtsrat abgestimmt. Nach 40 Jahren Tätigkeit in der Anti-Doping-Arbeit möchte ich mich jetzt anderen Aufgaben widmen“, sagte Gotzmann. Das Aufsichtsgremium ist diesem Wunsch nachgekommen und hat beschlossen, die Nachbesetzung des Vorstandsvorsitzes durch eine öffentliche Ausschreibung durchzuführen.
„Dr. Andrea Gotzmann hat die Arbeit der NADA seit Beginn ihrer Tätigkeit entscheidend geprägt und die Entwicklung der Stiftung maßgeblich vorangetrieben. Wir bedauern sehr, dass sie aus dem Führungsteam der NADA ausscheidet. Im Namen des gesamten Aufsichtsrates bedanke ich mich für ihren fortwährenden Einsatz in der Anti-Doping-Arbeit und wünsche ihr alles Gute für die bald kommende Zeit ohne berufliche Verpflichtungen“, sagte Prof. Hans Georg Näder, Aufsichtsratsvorsitzender der NADA.
Dr. Andrea Gotzmann ist seit 1983 in der Anti-Doping-Arbeit tätig. Sie absolvierte ihre Ausbildung in diesem Bereich und war anschließend zunächst am Institut für Biochemie an der Deutschen Sporthochschule in Köln und später für zwölf Jahre bei der NADA als Vorstandsvorsitzende tätig.
„Ich bedanke mich bei allen Kolleginnen und Kollegen mit denen ich in dieser langen Zeit zusammenarbeiten durfte, die mich inspiriert haben und die mir fair, vorurteilsfrei und offen entgegengetreten sind“, sagte Dr. Andrea Gotzmann.
„Ich habe als Athletin erlebt, wie wichtig Ehrlichkeit im Sport ist und sehe mit gewisser Sorge die enormen Herausforderungen in den Integritätsfragen des Sports. Die NADA hat sich während meiner Tätigkeit weiterentwickelt und sehr viel erreicht. Jedoch darf es hier keinen Stillstand in der Unterstützung durch die Stakeholder geben. Die längst geglaubte Sicherheit in Fragen der NADA-Finanzierung wird wieder aktuell und ohne permanente Nachsteuerung würde die Stiftung ihr inzwischen hohes internationales Ansehen innerhalb kurzer Zeit verspielen. Dies muss allen Verantwortlichen bewusst sein. Für die sauberen Athletinnen und Athleten ist eine umfassende, auskömmliche Anti-Doping-Arbeit in Deutschland von großer Wichtigkeit“, teilte Gotzmann mit.

Gotzmann ends professional activity
During the 33rd meeting of the Supervisory Board of the National Anti Doping Agency of Germany (NADA Germany) in Berlin on 25th April 2023, Dr Andrea Gotzmann requested that she be officially removed from the position of Chairperson of the Executive Board of NADA Germany as of 31 July 2023 due to the end of her professional career.
"My personal decision has been made for some time and has been agreed with the Supervisory Board at an early stage. After 40 years of activity in anti-doping work, I would now like to devote myself to other responsibilities," said Gotzmann. The Supervisory Board has complied with this wish and has decided to fill the position of Chairperson of the Executive Board through a public tender.
"Dr Andrea Gotzmann has decisively shaped NADA Germany's work since the beginning of her activity and has significantly advanced the development of the Foundation. We very much regret that she is leaving NADA Germany's leadership team. On behalf of the entire Supervisory Board, I would like to thank her for her ongoing commitment to the anti-doping work and wish her all the best for the time that will soon come when she is free of professional obligations," said Prof Hans Georg Näder, Chairman of NADA Germany's Supervisory Board.
Dr Andrea Gotzmann has been active in the anti-doping work since 1983. She completed her studies in this field and then worked first at the Institute for Biochemistry at the German Sport University in Cologne and later for twelve years at NADA Germany as Chairperson of the Board.
"I would like to thank all the colleagues with whom I have had the privilege of working over this long period of time, who have inspired me and who have treated me fairly, without prejudice and openly," said Dr Andrea Gotzmann.
"As an athlete I have experienced how important honesty is in sport and with some concern I see the enormous challenges in the integrity issues of sport. NADA Germany has evolved and achieved a lot during my tenure. However, there must be no standstill in stakeholder support here. The long-believed security in questions of NADA Germany's funding is becoming topical again and without permanent readjustment, the Foundation would lose its now high international reputation within a short period of time. All those responsible must be aware of this. Comprehensive, adequate anti-doping work in Germany is of great importance for clean athletes," Gotzmann said.
