Bei den European Games 2023 in Krakau, Polen, wird Stefan Trinks, Leiter des Ressorts Doping-Kontroll-System der Nationalen Anti Doping Agentur Deutschland (NADA) das Independent Observer Team der Welt Anti-Doping Agentur (WADA) leiten. Die internationalen Expertinnen und Experten begutachten die Umsetzung der Anti-Doping-Arbeit vor Ort und unterstützen hinsichtlich der Effektivität der Kontrollen.
Das Anti-Doping-Programm wird in Krakau von der International Testing Agency (ITA) im Auftrag des Europäischen Olympischen Komitees (EOC) mit Unterstützung der polnischen Anti-Doping-Organisation (POLADA) und des lokalen Organisationskomitees durchgeführt. Das Independent Observer Team gibt den Organisatoren täglich Feedback und beobachtet alle Aspekte des Anti-Doping-Programms der Spiele. Darunter fallen die Planung und Implementierung der Testverteilung, die Rekrutierung und Schulung von Personal für die Probenentnahme, das Verfahren zu Auswahl, Benachrichtigung und Probenentnahme bei Athletinnen und Athleten, der Transport und die Aufbewahrung von Proben, die Umsetzung des Verfahren zur Genehmigung von Medizinischen Ausnahmegenehmigungen sowie das Ergebnismanagement. Im Anschluss an die European Games wird das Independent Observer Team einen Bericht verfassen, der auch Empfehlungen für zukünftige Sportgroßveranstaltungen enthält.
Für das Independent Observer Team der WADA in Krakau wurden benannt: Stefan Trinks (NADA Deutschland; Vorsitz), Olympia Karvasili (WADA), Ivan Cosic (Athlet, World ParaVolley), Ruta Banyte (NADO Lettland).

European Games: NADA Germany leads WADA's Independent Observer Team in Krakow 2023
At the 2023 European Games in Krakow, Poland, Stefan Trinks, Head of the Testing Programme of the National Anti Doping Agency of Germany (NADA Germany), will lead the Independent Observer Team of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA). The international experts are assessing the implementation of anti-doping work on site and provide support with regard to the effectiveness of the controls.
The anti-doping programme is implemented in Krakow by the International Testing Agency (ITA) on behalf of the European Olympic Committee (EOC) with the support of the Polish Anti-Doping Organisation (POLADA) and the local organising committee. The Independent Observer Team provides daily feedback to the organisers and monitors all aspects of the Games' anti-doping programme. This includes the planning and implementation of test distribution, the recruitment and training of Sample Collection Personnel, the selection, notification and sample collection process for athletes, the transport and storage of samples, the implementation of the Therapeutic Use Exemption approval process and results management. Following the European Games, the Independent Observer Team will prepare a report which will also include recommendations for future major sporting events.
