Therapeutic Use Exemption (TUE)
Athletes of certain high levels are subject to the entire anti-doping regulations of NADA Germany, for example regarding the therapeutic use of prohibited substances and prohibited methods. Here you can find out to which athletes these rules apply and how they can apply for a Therapeutic Use Exemption (TUE).
Therapeutic Use Exemption or Medical Certificate?
Athletes, who are member of a testing pool or a German sports league that requires TUEs, need a Therapeutic Use Exemption (TUE) for the use of prohibited substances and methods, according to the World Anti-Doping Code (WADC). The procedure is regulated in the International Standard for Therapeutic Use Exemptions (ISTUE) for all athletes worldwide. In Germany, the “Standard für Medizinische Ausnahmegenehmigungen” of NADA Germany applies, respectively.
If you as an athlete do not belong to a testing pool or a league that is subject to TUEs, please note our information on NADA's regulations for medical certificates.
